Born in Al-Thahiriyyah, near Hebron, in 1951; received
a BA in English Language and Literature from the University of Jordan,
Amman, in 1974, an MA in English Literature from Roosevelt University,
USA, in 1979, and a PhD in Comparative and English Literature from the
University of Iowa, USA, in 1986; became an Associate Professor of English
Literature at Birzeit University; later served as Dean at the university’s
of the Faculty of Arts; worked also as novelist and writer and has
published several books, incl. The Other Side of the Promised Land
(1990), and The Remains (1997); among the signatories of a
communiqué to the public titles No Retreat from our National Goals,
published on 20 Dec. 2001; member of the Birzeit University Council in
2004/05.
